Default StarMark Imaging - Poquoson, VA

I think I've officially found my new and only local printer.

I needed to get a couple of prints made to submit to an upcoming gallery show (I have to submit this Saturday, so it's short notice for sure) and I luckily remembered that another local photographer, Mark Warren, works at the lab over in Poquoson. I called him up to see if he was working today, and yay for me he was

At first I was a bit hesitant about getting prints done there, but I've had long conversations with Mark before (the man knows his printing!) and since Poquoson is a lot closer to me than Hampton, I knew Mark was the man to get things done.

And I was NOT wrong.

StarMark currently prints on two machines. A Noritsu and a Durst Theta 76. Both are traditional, chemically processed photo printers. Their normal paper is Kodak Endura (which I LOVE) and if you have ever had anything printed by Miller's or MPix on their "E-surface" you already know exactly how this paper looks and feels.

Output on these printers is just drop-dead gorgeous.

Their machines are well-maintained and Mark does a fantastic job of making sure that all of their computer systems are running smooth and properly calibrated and profiled output.

Just like Miller's or Mpix you can count on your images being color-corrected for output before being run and you can go in and check out a test proof to make sure everything matches what you need. Any changes can be made very quickly (in comparison to having to ship your prints back to an internet based company) to be sure your colors are coming out exactly how you wish.

There are a few different paper types available for printing on included the aforementioned Kodak Endura and Kodak Metallic (which has some absolutely KILLER "POP" to the resulting print).

I've spoken with him about the local clubs (He is one of the organizers of the HRDC so some of you out there may already know him from their meetings and photowalks) and he has assured me that he is in talks with his boss to offer VAPhotogs.com a specially discounted price.

And I DO mean DISCOUNT!

He was able to print my shots at 8x12 for $1.75 each and has assured me that if you go there and tell them how you heard about the place (and mention the "internet discount" price) that you too will be privy to said discount.

He'll be getting me the full specs and price-list soon and I will make a post specifically for the reason of sharing the services and price sheet to all members here (which I hope will be made into a sticky )

If you need something printed fast and right go check them out.

Odd sizes are no issue for them. They cater specifically to professionals and are used to strange requests so they will work with you as much as needed in order to get you what you need.

They can also handle film as well as digital.

That was a really long post!

Here's some useful information:

Actually, I went there without any files at all.

I had intended on just stopping by and saying "Hey" to Mark and see what the pricing was like. After he told me what a huge discount he could give me, he let me in the back so I could get on a computer and download my original files from my Zenfolio account to print on the spot.

Mark is awesome

I believe they accept Cd/DVD, USB sticks, flash cards, hard drives and all that jazz but you would need to contact them to know for sure as I didn't even think to ask at the time.

I know they prefer sRGB color-spaced jpg or flattened tiff files for ease of workflow, but if you talk to them they are capable of doing just about anything every which way.

Let me also say that I am also a new loyal customer here. Mark Warren has done a fantastic job with my prints.
For example.....I had 50 shots or so @ 4 x 6. They were all shot in bright sunny day with red uniforms. (kids soccer). They were red to me in LR but when they printed, they were a tad on the orange side. He adjusted all of them in LR and re-printed them....no charge.
He has fixed a few horizontal 4 x 6 crops to vertical 4 x 6 and done an awesome awesome job on my sportsmates.

Mark is also a fellow photog that is really kicking his Senior's portfolio into gear. A great all around guy that will go the extra mile for your prints!
(he's the only one I deal with so far).

Stop in, it's worth it!

Bill

All of the above. Mostly flash drive. They do have an FTP server that you load them up through. I just happen to be working on that side right now, so I just catch him on Face book and see when he will be in. I brought in 14 sportsmates and 30 or so 4 x 6 and he printed them in less than 15 minutes!
